DYC’s Must Listen Movie Soundtrack (and must SEE film): Land Ho!

22 Feb

I don’t know how many people watch the Spirit Awards on IFC…I for one love awards season and it and this year was amazing!  Fred Armisen and Kristen Bell were stellar hosts plus all the presenters (Kristen Wiig, Zach Galifianakis, Ewan McGregor, Cate Blanchett, Andy Samberg, Jessica Chastain aka Stainguard etc) and the winners were delightful as can be.  It is just such a fun, no rules at all kind of show where all the actors you really want to win always do and you can discover a film you NEED to see.  And this happened to me!  While watching a movie I never heard of (shame on me for this) “Land Ho!” won the John Cassavetes Award (aka best feature made under $500,000).  And oh glorious lady luck I saw it was on Starz on Demand and had to watch.  Not only is it a charming as fuck film (plot: two older gentleman long time friends/in laws take a trip to Iceland to get their groove back) but the soundtrack composed by Keegan DeWitt (of Wild Cub fame) is phenomenal.  The track Land Ho! written by DeWitt and sung by Olof Run Benediktsdottir is an original song that the Oscars should have nominated.  Oh well, instead all of us indie kids can know we have found a rare gem of a film, song and overall soundtrack the rest of the world won’t know about.  Our best kept secret.  So yes I highly recommend seeing Land Ho! and streaming the stellar movie soundtrack below:
